IKO recommends the use of an underlay with all their roof shingles.
If you are using roof shingles for a residential or industrial project then you must use an underlay.
If you are roofing a log cabin or other garden building then you will need to decide if to use an underlay such as Armourbase Pro or not.
Armourbase Pro provides a secondary barrier for your building in case there is a problem with the roof shingles, for example, they are blown off in a hurricane.
If your building is a simple shed or log cabin which will be used for storing bikes, garden equipment etc. and there was to be a problem with the roof shingles then there isn't going to be an awful lot of damage caused by a bit of rain getting in during the time it takes you to notice the problem and get it sorted out.
If you are using the building as an office or you are going to have things that would sustain more damage from water coming in then it is a good idea to use an underlay like Armourbase Pro.
If you are insulating your roof then we recommend that you use an underlay. If there was to be a problem with the roof shingles, rain would start getting into the roof but you would not notice it because the insulation would hide it or soak it up. Damage to your roof and insulation would be happening but you would not know.
